Summer Tips

Banish Picnic Ants
AntsSprinkle baby powder around your patio or picnic table to make an ant barrier. Ants won't walk in powder and won't invade your party.

Tired of Watering Container Gardens?
When constructing container gardens, try adding a few corks or a sponge to the pot before adding the soil. The corks or sponge will retain water and release it as the soil dries.

It's Shedding Season
Long Haired DogIt's shedding season for dogs and cats. To help remove pet hair from your carpet, spray the carpet very lightly with a mixture of 1 part fabric softener to 3 parts water. Let dry and vacuum up the pet hair easily.

Stop Soggy Salads
If you take salads to work for lunch this summer, try using a washed pill bottle to carry the salad dressing. It's small, easy to carry and your salad will stay fresh and crispy until lunch time.

PC Tips

Q. My computer asks me to update programs regularly, how do I know which programs are ok?

A. Generally speaking Microsoft, Windows, Aol, Adobe Acrobat, Adobe Flash Player, LEGITIMATE Anti-Spyware/Antivirus programs and any “user” installed programs are considered safe. If an unknown program which the user has not installed asks to run a scan, or states that the pc is infected and to “click here” to allow the program to run should be considered VERY suspicious. In recent months we have seen a significant rise in these types of programs stating that the pc is infected and to allow their program to run and fix the problem.

Spotlight on WALT'S AUTO, INC.
3551 Springfield-Xenia Rd.
Springfield, OH

Walt's Auto, Inc.

Walt's founder, Walter P. Wyen, got started in the used auto parts business in 1936. He owned and operated Xenia Auto Wrecking in Xenia, Ohio from 1936 to 1958. In 1960 Walter purchased 32 acres in Springfield, Ohio and established Walt's Auto. Walter's two sons, Gene and Dick joined the business when they finished high school and took over the business when their father passed away in 1979.

In the early days, Walt's operated like most other yards with boom trucks and torch wagons. In 1977 Walt's decided it was time to get organized. We purchased a new large forklift, a Big MAC Crusher, and implemented an AIMS inventory system. Prior to then, all the inventory was in our heads. The small company that began in a barn is now a modern recycling center with a computerized inventory system, a website that allows customers to search for a needed part and a 20,000 square foot building that contains a showroom, offices, sales area, warehouse and our dismantling area. Walt's attention to organization, environmental regulations and cleanliness earned them a Beautification Award from ARA (Automotive Recyclers Association) in 1987.

Dick and Gene stay up-to-date by networking with fellow recyclers. Walt's is a member of ARA, OATRA (Ohio Auto and Truck Recyclers Association), the Better Business Bureau and the Chamber of Commerce. At Walt's we strive to be the best supplier of recycled auto parts to our valued customers and the auto repair industry. Satisfied, repeat customers are our number one goal. In the immediate future, Walt's is getting "cleaned up" for our 50th anniversary. Fresh paint and cleaning are top on the list. Down the road we hope to purchase new delivery trucks and rollbacks and possibly update our computer system. We feel blessed to have served the Springfield area for 50 years and we hope that these changes and improvements will keep Walt's around for another 50.
